Welcome to Zone4 School!
Road cycling races are a popular and intense race format in the summer. While not as popular or as common as Triathlons, there is a lot of interest and money in Road Cycling, which raises the stakes for timing.
Many if not most road cycling races in North America are highly managed by their local PSO or the National Sports Organization. There are benefits and drawbacks to this, the high level of organization provides fairly consistent expectations, these tend to be higher than you would find in a community race.
Events such as these will provide many resources about how the race should be run, such as Tech Guides, and will have UCI commissaires present as well.
