How to setup 2 factor authentication

2 factor authentication is the best way to secure your account and is highly recommended for all Zone4 users.  2 factor authentication combined something you know (your password), with something you have (your phone).  Both are required to be in your possession in order login which eliminates the risk of an unauthorized person who may have compromised one of those two items.  For more information on two factor authentication please see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-factor_authentication

You will need to a 2 factor authentication app for your phone.  The most common ones are:

Google Authenticator

LastPass Authenticator

Password Managers

Note, using a password manager such as LastPass is also a key security enhancement that should be used by all internet users.  For more information about the importance of password managers see here: https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/24/15921282/best-password-manager-1password-lastpass-dashlane-how-to

Once the app is installed on your phone, on your PC or other device, login to your Zone4 account and click on your name in the upper right hand corner and click “Change Password & Settings

In your Personal Details click the “Enable 2-Factor” button

This will display a special QR code that is unique to your account.  In your authenticator phone app, click the + button to create a new entry, click the option to ‘Scan Barcode’

Your phone authenticator app will then display the entry along with a 6 digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.  Type that 6 digit code into the box on your Zone4 account screen where it says “Enter Code” and click Submit.

This completes the setup of your account for 2 factor authentication.  Now when you go to login on Zone4, after you have entered your username and password, it presents you with a screen to enter your Authenticator Code.  Enter whatever the current code is from your authenticator app on your phone.  As the code rotates every 30 seconds, your account can only be accessed by someone in possession of your phone at that moment and who knows your password.  This setup greatly increasing your security.  If you are using a private computer you can optionally select to ‘Trust this computer for 30 days’ so that the 2 factor authentication prompt won’t be required to signin via that device for 30 days.
