The **Edit Form** page is where you will design and edit the layout of your registration form. Here you can add fields to your form that collect the necessary information from and charge fees to registrants. You will also be able to add visual elements like a title and photos to your form.

To get to this page either:

- Click the **Edit Form** button in the top right of your registration page

Or

- Click the **Menu** button and select **Edit Form** from the drop down menu.

Once you’re on the **Edit Form** page, you’ll see two tabs at the top of the registration form editor: **Group Elements** and **Individual Elements**.

All basic registration form elements can be found in **Individual Elements** section, so you should add most of your elements in this tab. For more on why you might want to use group fields [click here](/kb/should-i-use-group-or-individual-fields-on-my-registration-form/).

## Adding & Configuring Fields

The Zone4 registration forms are constructed as a list of *fields*. Each field collects and stores a single piece of data for each registrant. For example a field could be gender, first name, last name, age, etc.

When you are editing your registration form, you will be adding, modifying, or removing these fields so that your form allows you to collect all the necessary information from your registrants.

After someone has registered, their data for each field can be viewed as a column in the **Reports** page. To learn more about **Reports** [click here](/kb/3-reporting/).

If you selected a template when you created the registration form, there may be some fields already added. These pre-selected fields can be modified or deleted as necessary.

### Adding a New Field

Add a new field or display element at the bottom of the registration form by clicking the blue **Add a Form Element**.

You can also add an element in the middle of the form by clicking on an existing element to open the menu, and selecting the **Insert a New Field Above This** option.

![](/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/image-46.png)

This will cause the **Add a Form Element** window to open.

### Adding Preset Fields

![](/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/image-47.png)

A *Preset Field* is a field type that we have built into our system. These fields automatically translate from French to English and are pre-filled on the public registration forms for users who have saved their information in a Zone4 “Quick List”.

Preset Waivers contain the correct waiver text as defined by a sport’s governing body, and licence fields integrate with external licencing databases.

We strongly recommend that wherever possible you use the preset fields to build your registration form to take advantage of any special functionality they contain.

For more on Preset Fields, [see the help page here](/kb/preset-fields/).

To add a preset field, click it. A page will open where you can choose additional options for the field. When you’re done, click **Save** to add it to your registration form.

![](/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/image-49.png)

Once you have added a Preset Field, you cannot add it again. The message **(Already Added to Form)** appears beside fields already in use.

### Adding Custom Data Fields or Fees

Custom Fields have no special logic tied to them, and are entirely under your control. You can edit them as necessary to collect the data you need to collect. If there is no preset field that you can use, click the **Create a Custom Element** button at the bottom of the **Add a Form Element** window, and select the data type you would like to use.

There will be three main types of fields displayed:

1. **Fee Types**: These are used for any field with a fee associated with it. A good time to use this is if you have multiple race distances, that all cost different amounts. For more information about these fields [click here](/kb/registration-fee-fields/).
2. **Data Fields**: These are short text fields or option fields that have no fee associated with them. For more information about data fields [click here.](/kb/data-fields/)
3. **Display Elements**: These are mainly used for aesthetic purposes. You can add large blocks of text, images, links, separators and headings with these fields. For more information on these fields [click here.](/kb/display-elements/)

### Deleting a Field

Before deleting a field from a published form, check whether it already has registrant data. A field with collected data cannot be deleted; you can hide it from the public form instead.

You can remove a field from your registration form before it has been published by clicking the field you want to delete and then selecting the **Delete this Field** option in the popup menu:

![](/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/img_5abd6d5a55ecf.png)

If the published form has collected data for a field, you cannot delete it because that would destroy the data. To hide the field from the public registration form, click it and select **Edit this Field**.

![](/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/image-50.png)

Scroll down to the **Visibility** options and select **Only display to signed-in administrators**. Then click **Save.**

![](/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/image-51.png)

### Re-Ordering Fields

To re-order fields on the registration form, click on the field you want to move and select the **Move Up** or **Move Down** options in the menu.

![](/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/image-52.png)

Another way of moving things is by drag and drop. To do this move your mouse over the grey bar that runs along the right edge of the form until your cursor turns into a move icon.

![](/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/image-53.png)

Drag and drop the field to the location on the form where you would like it to be.

## Previewing Your Changes

When you have made some changes to your registration form, we recommend previewing them. This allows you to confirm that your registrants will see exactly what you want them to see and make sure that conditional logic that you set up is working correctly. To do this, click the **Preview Public Form** button at the top of the **Edit Form** page:

![](/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/img_5abd7116a64ce.png)

If your registration form has been published, this will take you to the actual live registration form.
If you are testing before the form has been published this button will take you to a “test mode” form. In “test mode” any data you enter will be cleared out when the form goes live and no fees will actually be charged. This allows you to go through the whole registration process from start to finish and see exactly what your registrants will see.

## Quick Tips

There are a lot of different ways that you can organize your registration form, but here are a few tips to help you.

- **Start your form with a** **Display Element:** Most registrations usually choose to populate the first field(s) with general information about their event, the event title or upload an image with the event logo.
- **Use lots of Preset Fields:** Using lots of preset standardized fields will save you time. The Preset Fields are associated with standard fields in reporting section of your registration and Zone4’s race timing software, so they will help you throughout the course of your event.
- **Have a good idea of the information you need to collect:** Plan out what information you will need to collect from registrants before trying to create a registration form. Then learn about the [various types of fields](/kb/registration-form-field-guide/) so you know the best fields to use to collect the needed information.

## Next Steps

Once you’re done configuring fields, preview the public form to make sure it is organized the way you want. When you’re satisfied, continue to the [Publish section](/kb/publishing-a-registration-form/).
